Bloomerang may replace your From email address because of Domain-based Message Authentication (DMARC). DMARC is a method used by email providers to only deliver legitimate emails. It protects email recipients from loads of spam, but, it can also mark your organization's emails as fraudulent.

Basic Definitions

  • Domain is the "MyWebsite" part of www.MyWebsite.com.
  • An IP address is a computer address that looks like 111.22.333.444. An IP address is assigned to each domain and computer connected to the Internet.
  • Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) is an email authentication, policy, and reporting protocol.

DMARC

DMARC compares the domain name of the sending email server and the domain name used in the From address. A strict DMARC policy says that if the two do not match, the receiving email server should reject the email. Many free email providers, such as Gmail, Apple, Yahoo, and AOL, use a strict DMARC policy.

To ensure your emails are delivered, Bloomerang replaces certain domain names with mailman.bloomerang-mail.com. Bloomerang uses the original From address as the Reply To address so you still get any replies.

Note: Not all email programs will use the different Reply To email address.

See Set up to Send and Receive Bloomerang Emails for more details.

Comcast

Comcast's spam policy says that the IP address of the sending email server and the IP address of the domain used in the From address must match. Bloomerang fixes this problem by changing the From address to YourDatabaseName@mailman.bloomerang-mail.com. Now the IP addresses match and your email is delivered to Comcast email addresses. You don't need to do anything.

Bloomerang uses the original From address as the Reply To address so you still get any replies.

Note: Not all email programs will use the different Reply To email address.

What You Can Do

Use an email address from your organization's domain name when sending email from Bloomerang. If your organization does not have a domain name, we encourage you to purchase one.
