This article describes how to edit images in letter and email templates using Bloomerang's legacy editor.  For help adding and editing images in email templates created after 11/11/2019, refer to Add or Edit Images in Emails - HD.

Add an Image

To add an image for use in a letter or email:

  1. Open the letter or email template where you would like to use the photo.
  2. Place your cursor where you would like to add the image, then click Insert/Edit Image icon.
    • To add an image hosted on another site, enter the URL in Source, then click Ok.
    • To upload an image or select one from your image gallery, click Browse.

Upload an Image

Clicking Browse opens your Bloomerang Image Manager. Every image that you upload to Bloomerang is stored here, allowing you to reuse previously uploaded images as needed.

  1. To insert an image that is already in the gallery, select the image, then click Ok. To upload a new image, click Choose File. Locate and select the image on your computer. The file must be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format.
  2. Click Upload.
  3. Select the image from the gallery, then click Ok.

Note: Your image must be 1MB or smaller to be uploaded to your Bloomerang gallery. If your image is larger than 1MB, you need to either compress it using an image compression tool, or you can upload it to another site and link to it.

Warning: Click X underneath an image to permanently delete it from the Bloomerang gallery. If this image is used in any emails, the emails now show a broken image icon instead of the image.

Resize an Image

Resize an image in your template by dragging the edge of the image from one of the nodes that appears when the image is selected.

  1. Click on the image to select it.
  2. Place your cursor over the corner node, then click and drag to resize it.
  3. When you release the mouse button, then image will be resized to the new dimension.

Tip: Drag one of the corner nodes to keep the image's proportions correct.

How Wide Can My Images Be?

The email template you chose affects how wide your images can be. See Best Practices for Email Templates for guidelines.

For letter templates, the maximum width depends on the page size and margins. For an 8.5-inch-wide page with 1-inch left and right margins, images should be no wider than 600px.

Change the Image Alignment

You can align an image to be on the right or left, with text flowing around it. To do so, click the image, and then click Align Right icon or Align Left icon.

Right aligning an image allows text to flow around it on the left, as shown in the image below:

Add Space Around an Image

If you have an image that is left or right aligned with text to the side of it, you might find that you want to add some additional space around the image so that the text is not butted right against it. To add some spacing around the image:

  1. Click the image.
  2. Click Insert/Edit Image icon.
  3. Click Advanced.
    • To add space above and below an image, enter a width in Vertical space.
    • To add space to the left and right of an image, enter a width in Horizontal space
  4. Click OK.

Add a Border to an Image

To add a border to an image:

  1. Click the image.
  2. Click Insert/Edit Image icon.
  3. Click Advanced.
  4. Type in a width in pixels into Border Width.
  5. Enter a Border Color.
  6. Click OK.

Set a Description on an Image

Many email programs do not automatically display images when an email is opened:

Set an Image description to let the email recipient know what the image contains. To do so:

  1. Click on the image, then click Insert/Edit Image icon.
  2. Type a description into the Insert/edit image window.
  3. Click Ok.

Tip: Image descriptions make your email more accessible to constituents with visual impairments. Email readers will pick up the image description.

Delete an Image

To delete an image from the Image Manager:

  1. Open any email template.
  2. Click Insert/Edit Image icon.
  3. Click the browse icon to open your Bloomerang Image Manager. Every image that you upload to Bloomerang is stored here, allowing you to reuse previously uploaded images as needed.
  4. To permanently delete an image, click the X underneath an image. If this image is used in any emails, the emails now show a broken image icon instead of the image.
